Q: How did you get into design?
A: “I loved to sketch and paint as a young kid.
I grew up in Argentina and my Aunt visited NYC and came
back with a sketch pad,
pencils, and markers. At 19 I moved to
Manhattan where I worked in a fabric store as a sales person. I then moved on
to doing the windows and dressing the mannequins. I enrolled in Fashion Institute of Technology and got my
first job as a design assistant in evening wear and never looked back.”
Q: Why did you decide to work in evening wear?
A: “There’s a lot of freedom, no
limits.”
Q: What is your daily inspiration?
A: "I am inspired on the way to work, the streets
I cross, the newsstands I encounter, the magazines, old films and fashion
history."
Q: What are this year’s
Homecoming trends?
A: “Definitely a Gatsby theme-
beaded mesh, lace, over layers, nudes, pinks, and sky blues- sort of a soft,
romantic, whimsical vibe”
Q: Describe the brand you design
for.
A: “It is a young, fresh, trendy
line that sells at an affordable price point.”
Q: Tell me about the process of designing a line.
A: " First I create a presentation board with color swatches
and pictures of shapes and trends. I usually use one trend to build a
collection. This season was based off of The Great Gatsby and the 1920’s. I
travel internationally to get inspiration as well. I go to international fabric
shows and when I am abroad I visit museums and study the different street
styles. The best inspiration comes from simply opening your eyes."
Q: What do you look forward to everyday?
A: "The chance to be creative, see what trends are going on and
producing what my imagination envisions."
Q: What does fashion mean to you?
A: "Everything, I breathe fashion."
Q: What is the most important component of being a designer?
A: "Being creative, evolutionary, never giving up- knowing
you are never finished or done creating."
Q: What advice do you have to share with aspiring designers?
A: "Be creative and persistent. It’s not easy. Stay focused
on what you want and believe in yourself."
